Texas Sunset 2023

By Andrew R. Duckworth

It was a punch of color on the eyes,
A punch you ask for again.
Pinks swam with orange in an
Unreachable sea,
Fading to a blue.
Now, I know that the sun doesn’t hide
Just as I know a shadow
Is uncatchable.
We’re in a constant U-turn
As we glide around the brightness.
But when that sun peaks it’s eye
Above the horizon line
For a last time at night,
You could swear it wants attention.
