Failure’s Lesson

By Andrew R. Duckworth

I felt the coastal gale,
But I was ready to set sail,
Ready to become the example
Of how to harshly fail.

No one could talk me out
The times my mind flooded about
Of which there were ample,
My resolve stubbornly stout.

And then there was the day
The winds blew me away
With a sudden trample,
And the threads began to fray.

So, now I see the error
Of a life of wayward terror,
A lesson no one should sample
Should one wish life be fairer.
