Modernity

By Andrew R. Duckworth

Things are not meant to be instant,
Lest we forget everything.
Why remember if something else
Does the work for us?
A few snapshots at the monument.
Yes, I’ve been there,
I have these photos to prove it.
No, I can’t say I remember it.
- it was too crowded
- it was too dreary that day
- it was too quick.
Our memory lies in a photo album
On our phones because we were too
Focused on proving we were there
Than taking the time to enjoy it.
Experiences are for the past.
Reflection is for earlier times,
Before we moved on
To the quick and the easy
And the barren and miserable.
