There is Surely a Hero

By Andrew R. Duckworth

There is surely a Hero
Who knows His way
Around slithering words,
Who steps among the realms-
Saving those crying for rescue.
Too many wish to be the hero
Of their own story,
But the story was never theirs.
They are but footnotes
On a page long written down.
There is surely a Hero
Who comforts the weary,
Those who have long accepted
That the villain who feeds
On the fears of the living
Can only be conquered
By Divine hands.
Too many pick up
Their own sword and shield,
And, with eager feet,
Run towards fire and captivity
When there is surely a Hero
With the strongest armor.
When that venomous villain lies
And the Heavens and the earth
Both cry out for justice,
There is surely a Hero
That lights the path
Of peace for those
With careful feet.
