I felt no shame in it,
Felt no guilt at all
When I chose the gas-guzzler.
I was told I would be
“Destroying the environment”
By the bobble-head on television,
By the stars at award shows,
By a wagging, wrinkled finger
Pretending to speak for the youth.
But I felt no shame
When I knew…
I knew…
My gas-guzzler
Would have less a carbon footprint
In a single year
Than Taylor Swift’s jet
In a single day.
