Diamond Out West

By Andrew R. Duckworth

Utah is a diamond out west.
I flew over without a thought
On my way to Vegas.
Then I looked from the mountains
At the vast land, at the desert,
At the lakes, at the forests.
There’s a sacred peace out there,
An inspiring serenity.
Some wind will meet your ear
And then the quiet
And the joyful songs of birds,
The brush of dancing wild flowers
And a view that could
Almost be paradise,
As if the garden was not
Entirely locked away.
