Inflation

By Andrew R. Duckworth

We need no economist
Or new age mage
Or grinning devil
Taking the stage
To see the writing
On the page.
This is my rage:
Soon, two incomes
Won’t put food on the table.
Soon, the old man who can retire
Won’t be able.
Soon, you’ll be asked to buy
An electric car,
But your income
Won’t go that far.
Soon, the mom and pop shop
Will close its doors.
They can’t afford
To keep it open anymore.
Soon, the devil
Comes for your bank
As the economy
Continues to tank.
And, to be frank,
We were broke
Before we were broke.
