Tuned-Out

By Andrew R. Duckworth

Computerized everything,
Plugged-in to a system
You can’t unplug from-
Current society.
We are in the business
Of screwing ourselves over.
Data streams everywhere-
Yours, mine, ours
Now theirs without care.
We have shown ourselves
Just a number on a screen
In a frigid office
With an overlord at the chair
Unconcerned with just or fair.
Legislation made-
Words that won’t fade
Over time and money.
Here we are, hunny,
The system of plugged-in
And tuned-out,
A culture of growing fear
And endless doubt
With raging voices
Growing to a shout.
Here we are-
The connected but controlled
And there’s no way out.
