Some Sound Advice from Dr. John

By Andrew R. Duckworth

I went to see Dr. John today.
He gave me some jazz, some blues.
Woke up on New Orleans streets
In a pair of dancin’ shoes.
I heard an Armstrong trumpet,
A piano playin’ loud,
Players dancin’ on the keys
Doing the River proud.
I went to see Dr. John today
And I won’t ever be the same.

I was introduced to Dr. John some time ago, but didn’t really dive into his music until recently. I’ve always been a fan of Louis Armstrong, who got a start in New Orleans before moving north, but Dr. John was someone who I wasn’t familiar with. However, having listened to many of his songs, he has quickly become one of my favorites. He passed a few years back, but his music lives on. I love Jazz and Blues and New Orleans has its own flavors of both.
