The Two Second Pop Song

By Andrew R. Duckworth

We live in the years
Of two-second pop-
In one day, out the next.
No one really giving their best.
You can hear it on the radio,
See it on the highway,
Feel it in the churches.
A temporary high,
But the rush passes by
Like it wasn’t even here.
We don’t admire craft anymore.
We admire speed-
Instant gratification.
People want two-second pop,
The two-second pop song
Created more by machine
Than by the mind.
We’ll listen to it today.
Tomorrow, it won’t exist at all.
Two seconds to make,
Two seconds to hear,
Two seconds to toss.
Craft and creativity lost.
