Humility

By Andrew R. Duckworth

Humility bites ego’s strings
That holds us captive to our pride
That tells us we should be as kings
While keeping all our faults inside.

Humility heals the devious heart
That once traveled the world alone
Assuming it could play its part,
Engrave its own laws onto stone.

Humility brings the soul to peace
Even if it first brings pain.
That rugged trail will put at ease
The storms of hail and pouring rain.

Humility, don’t misunderstand,
Is often hard to fully take,
But when it’s spread in every land
It makes peace grow and chaos break.
