Our Stories

Andrew R. Duckworth

Our stories have evolved,
From hopeful, from sacrificial,
To hopeless, to darkness.
From beautiful beginnings,
To devastating endings.
We skip the beginning
To get to the end.
Perhaps it is because
We no longer live in a time
Of beginnings, unless we count
Our own infernal creations,
Ones that will end us.
We are closer to the end,
Living in the last chapters.
The end seems more beneficial.
But, by skipping, we lose context,
Like the how concerning the end,
Like the why an ending comes.
But today, we’re content
Knowing just the end,
Skipping the middle,
Skipping importance,
Skipping our story.
