My City of the Future

By Andrew R. Duckworth

If told that I must,
or all else fails,
If directed by God himself,
I would design it with
The fewest possible limitations.
The prevailing theme would be
Freedom for every individual.
Citizens would own their property
With no regulatory body telling
Them they can’t.
People would decide
Which currency they prefer
Both to spend and to accept-
An agreement between individuals.
I would discourage the use of A.I.
Without outright banning it.
I would encourage citizens
To be more social,
To greet their neighbor,
To be neighborly,
To embrace love
And despise anger.
The citizens would decide
The placement of things,
How routes might benefit them.

Yet, if given the choice,
I would reject it outright.
I have seen too often
How power corrupts
The mind and soul,
And I cannot risk
The loss of either.
