The Coming Ice Storm

By Andrew R. Duckworth

To say that my mind cannot be broken from an apocalyptic frame would be putting it mildly. All day, every day, my mind is focused on the apocalyptic, both the end of the world and a great unveiling of Truth and justice.

Just yesterday, I was focused on the developments overseas which tie into developments here at home, as our ‘dear leader’ has decided to inject himself into practically every situation globally. What can one expect from a serial narcissist? It seems the end of all civility and the current order is just around the corner given everything happening the world over. And now, the ice storm.

Weather models are predicting a catastrophic ice storm the likes of which hasn’t been seen in decades. Will it come to pass? I’m not a meteorologist, but I trust they tell the truth. I’ve seen the weather models. They do not look good at all.

In 2021, Texas experienced an ice storm that left some stranded without power for weeks during some of the coldest weather. Some died due to the cold. If some are to be believed, this ice storm scheduled to hit over the weekend has the potential to make the 2021 ice storm look like child’s play. It won’t be just Texas. Many states throughout the United States are scheduled to get pummeled by ice, stretching from Oklahoma and Texas all the way to the Carolinas.

You might be wondering what this has to do with the end of all things. As previously mentioned, my mind stays practically attached to the apocalyptic, particularly in the last few years. Is it healthy? I don’t know, but it’s unavoidable. But if the current models are accurate, it will be the end of the world for some. The grid will absolutely fail. That isn’t me injecting an opinion. That is me analyzing what happened in 2021, the failures that happened, and recognizing that, between 2021 and now, lots of data centers have been constructed, the things that drain power from the rest of everything. How are we supposed to make it through the storm, which, in a way, serves both a literal and figurative purpose? The storm is indeed a storm, but storms are often also used to describe tough periods of life. I suggest the world has been experiencing a storm for many years now.

I have hope that the failing infrastructure can somehow hold out. But I have been worried, all this week in fact. Images of a snow covered landscape have flooded my mind, not with some sort of child-like wonder and giddiness, but accompanied by the reality that nature is not a friend. Nature is one who passes by on the street, not giving you eye contact. It doesn’t know you; it doesn’t care. Nature does its own thing. Nature can absolutely be admired, both in that respect and the beauty that nature holds. But if you interfere with it, it will show you exactly who has control, and it isn’t us. We hold no real power. Yet, some of the worst among us love to revel in the power they receive from others. An unpleasant mixture of the two, the carelessness of nature and the ‘powerful’ wielding their power over the people, seems like a perfect storm of destruction. And the anxiety continues to grow.
