He Could Have Done Much

By Andrew R. Duckworth

He watched as time ticked away,
As hours fled from his fingertips,
As days danced off the calendar,
As years yielded decades.
He watched as passengers
Reached their destination,
As the child grew to adulthood
And picked up their cane.
He watched as his friends passed by,
As the fledglings took to the sky,
As others took their piece of pie
And soared to new heights.

Poor soul, he could have done much,
But all he did was watch.
