Struggle I

By Andrew R. Duckworth

Struggle is a bastard
Born of two devils
That came and nested
In a place it wasn’t welcome.
It won’t budge.
In fact, the more you poke it,
The more chaos reigns.
It will flap those crazy wings
Until it has given
All that you can take.

Struggle is a necessary enemy,
Hiding out with a branding iron,
Making its marks,
Forming its scars.
But, without that devil child,
Playing with its fire
In your everyday life,
Life loses value-
Life loses drive.
I was not convinced
By the easy ride.
I was convinced
By the challenge.

  1. It is really a challenge for Mitt and me right now.  He is not doing well. More dr. Appointment Friday.  He’s lightheaded, headache, blood pressure spikes early a.m., etc.  please pray for us, Drew.
