Creativity

By Andrew R. Duckworth

Creativity is a voice
I don’t hear coming,
Often unannounced,
Knocking on the door
Late afternoon
Or early morning.
I’m unsure if it is
An echo of my mind
Or out in the ether.
Perhaps I knock on its door
Unannounced, while going from
House to house,
Trying to find my way-
Uncertain, unknowing.
But, when I open the door,
Or it opens for me-
It shouts its presence
Like cannon fire.
Sometimes, I reach for it,
But no one’s home.
On occasion, it barges in
With supplies to redecorate
And begins unpacking
Before I can say “hello.”
