Polarized

By Andrew R. Duckworth

“The opposing side is WRONG!
I know because [fill in nonsense].
Besides, the other side is
[Fill in ad hominem of choice].”
And that, my friends,
Is how reason ends
And how together we lose
Only following trends.
Let’s see how much reality bends
Before friend becomes foe,
Neighbor turns to stranger,
Because our way was led by rage
And we demanded the stage
To voice pride and aggression,
Rather than a moment of reflection.
Sometimes we know too much.
