Leading to Something

By Andrew R. Duckworth

Life is a system of failures leading to success. You were disappointed, as was I. We stay in disappointment until the bells ring and the incense is lit.
Oh, King David, you adulterer!
Oh, Moses, you bitter man!
Oh, St. Peter, you coward!
Oh, St. Paul, you murderer!
The path back is full of thorns, but thorns that heal, little by little, stick by stick, until you’re welcomed back home. When you look in the mirror, or see your reflection in the healing waters, you’ll see your scars but realize what was once a wound has healed. While you were once an adulterer, you are no more. While you were once a coward, you are no more. While you were once bitter, the bitterness has left. What was done was done. It can’t be changed. But what He has done He has done, and it can’t be changed, the success that we crave, the success that became ours though not of our own.
