We’re All In the Circus

By Andrew R. Duckworth

We are the lion
Chewing on its own leg.
Those who claim lordship
Are the ringleaders.

The voices scraped free of reason
Shouting over social media,
Shouting over a television screen,
They are the clowns.

It’s all under a big top,
But it has no colors.
No one could agree
On what color the strips should be.

Whether we perform or sit idly,
We’re all a part of the circus.
